Frequently Asked Questions

What is a TES battery?
A Thermal Energy Storage (TES) battery is a device that allows the storage of thermal energy. It is analogous in use to an electrical battery which allows for the storage of electricity. In the TES battery designed by Waste Salt Technologies, energy is stored in a special material by elevating its temperature. At a later use, whenever it is beneficial for the customer, the heat can be extracted and put to good use as process heat or as input heat for electricity generation.
What temperatures can the battery handle?
Currently work is being done on our Model A battery which is projected to store energy at temperatures up to 400°C ( 750°F)
How many charge cycles can the battery handle?
It is currently being investigated, but current projections show a potential lifespan of over 30 years
What maintenance is required for the battery?
Extremely low or no maintenance is projected for the battery since it does not contain any moving parts
